Welcome To The Jungle...Of East Texas

This week, I was doing research on my beloved East Texas when I discovered something astonishing. There are only two areas in the United States that are considered a jungle, the Florida Everglades, and the Big Thicket of East Texas.

That's right, there's a jungle in Texas, and I live right next to it. I learned that aside from containing more trees than the ENTIRE state of Oregon (16 million acres to be exact), it is home to four of the five carnivorous plants known to grow in the U.S. A primeval forest that surived the ice age, it harbored many animals that were fleeing the encroaching ice. Big Thicket is also rumored to have mystery lights like the ones in Marfa, Texas, and BIGFOOT!

I am making plans to visit this primeval wonderland in April. If you would like to join me, there's a sign-up sheet in the employee lounge.
